The BMW Central Building in Leipzig was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects for BMW AG. Groundbreaking was in March 2003, the building was completed in September 2004 and it opened in May 2005. The article names no style. It compares the design to industrial works such as the Fiat Lingotto Factory and the AEG Turbine Factory.
The structure uses cast-in-place concrete for its walls and floors, and a structural steel roof with space frame construction. The facade is corrugated metal, channel glass and glass curtain wall. It has a footprint of 250,000 square feet (23,000 m2).
It links three production buildings, and an elevated conveyor carries about 650 BMW 3 Series sedans a day through it. It also holds offices, meeting rooms and a cafeteria for 5,500 factory employees. It won a 2006 RIBA European Award and was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize.
