The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa on a lava field on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland, about 3 miles (5 kilometers) from Grindavík and 12 miles (20 kilometers) from Keflavík International Airport. The article does not name an architect. Runoff from the Svartsengi power plant, which opened in 1976, formed pools, and bathing facilities opened in 1987. The Blue Lagoon company was established in 1992.

The lagoon is man-made. Water arrives from the power plant after it has run turbines and passed a heat exchanger. The water stays near 98 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit (37 to 39 degrees Celsius), and silica gives it a milky blue color.

A psoriasis clinic opened in 1994, and skin products went on sale in 1995. Visits rose from 919,000 in 2015 to 1.3 million in 2017. Eruptions closed the site repeatedly in 2023 and 2024.
