Blankenhain Castle, or Schloss Blankenhain, is a large castle in Blankenhain, near Crimmitschau, in the Zwickau district of Saxony, Germany. The castle dates back to the 12th century. It was first documented in 1423 as a Wasserburg, or water castle. In 1661 half of the castle burned down. It was rebuilt in 1699, though some sources say 1700. In 1765 it acquired its current Baroque appearance, with a mansard roof and domed towers.
After World War II the Soviet regime ordered the castle destroyed, but local residents intervened and saved it.
Since 1981 the castle and surrounding land have been developed as an open-air museum. The museum portrays agriculture and rural life in central Germany between 1890 and 1990. It covers 11 hectares and includes 60 buildings.
