The Mário de Andrade Library is the largest public library in São Paulo, Brazil. It was established in 1925 with a donation of holdings from the library of the city's Câmara Municipal, and it is named after Mário de Andrade, one of the founders of Brazilian modernism. It is housed in an Art Deco building in the historic downtown, considered one of the city's icons of that style.
It was the first Brazilian public institution to acquire modern works by local and foreign artists. Those works are now held by the Pinacoteca Municipal. It has been a United Nations depository library since 1958.
Its roughly 3.2 million items form the second-largest bibliographic and documentary heritage in Brazil, after the National Library in Rio de Janeiro. It has over 60,000 rare books, manuscripts, maps and prints.
