The Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Piazza Pio XI, Milan, was built under the designs and direction of Lelio Buzzi and Francesco Maria Richini. Cardinal Federico Borromeo founded the library, and the article names no other client. Construction began in 1603, and the main room was completed by 1609. The reading room opened on December 8, 1609.
The article names no style and gives no dimensions. Brass grilles held the books on the shelves, and the room has two enormous semicircular windows at each end. The Pinacoteca building was begun between 1611 and 1618. The infobox date of 1609 matches the text.
An Allied air raid damaged the building in 1943. It was restored in 1952, with major restorations from 1990 to 1997. It is a library and art gallery, open to the public for five hours a day according to the text. The article gives no ticket information.
