The Broad Contemporary Art Museum, known as BCAM, is a gallery building at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Renzo Piano Building Workshop designed it, with Gensler Associates as co-architect. Construction ran from 2003 to 2008 as the first phase of the LACMA expansion.
BCAM is a three-story building on an H-shaped plan, with about 65,000 square feet (6,000 square meters) of gallery space. Travertine clads the walls, the galleries have wooden floors, and a saw-tooth roof with louvers lights the top floor. Light fabric scrims cover the Wilshire Boulevard facade.
A red escalator carries visitors to the top level. The BP Grand Entrance stands beside it under a floating steel canopy, with the ticket office below. Arup handled structure and services, and Advanced Structures Incorporated worked on the facade.
