The Bass Museum in Miami Beach is owned by the City of Miami Beach. John Bass and Johanna Redlich bequeathed their collection to the city in 1963, and the museum opened on April 7, 1964 in the former Miami Beach Public Library. David Gauld designed the 12 million dollar expansion that opened on October 29, 2017, with Arata Isozaki as design consultant. Isozaki had designed a 1,500 square meter expansion that opened in 2002. The article names no style or materials.

The 2017 work increased programmable space by almost 50 percent. It added four galleries totaling 380 square meters (4,100 square feet) and a Creativity Center with three classrooms.

An Open Storage gallery rotates displays of the permanent collection.
