The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption in Baltimore was designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe. The article names no formal client, but John Carroll, the first American Catholic bishop, guided the work. The infobox gives 1806 to 1821, but the text says construction ran from 1806 to 1863. It was blessed and opened on May 31, 1821 and consecrated on May 25, 1876.

The article calls the style Neoclassical, with a Latin cross basilica plan and a central dome. The exterior walls are silver-gray gneiss from Ellicott City. The main dome is wooden and double-shelled, with an inner masonry hemisphere.

It became a minor basilica in 1937, a National Historic Landmark in 1971 and a National Shrine in 1993. A 34 million dollar restoration finished in 2006 after the building closed from November 2004. The article gives no hours.
