The Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria was designed by José Enrique Marrero Regalado and built from 1949 to 1959 over the site of an earlier church that burned in 1789. Bishop Domingo Pérez Cáceres promoted it, with donations from across the islands. It was consecrated on February 1, 1959.

The infobox lists Neoclassicism, while the text describes a neo-Canarian eclectic mix of styles found in the Canary Islands, and the article does not reconcile the two. It gives no materials or dimensions. The infobox lists a capacity of 5,000, and the facade faces west.

Pope Benedict XVI raised it to a minor basilica in January 2011. It is a pilgrimage center that the article says draws more than 2.5 million visitors a year, and the Canary government lists it as a Site of Cultural Interest. It is open daily, with no admission fee mentioned.
