Aydon Castle stands at Aydon, near Corbridge in Northumberland, England. It is described as a fortified manor house, and it is a Grade I listed scheduled ancient monument.
The Suffolk merchant Hugh de Raymes bought the land between 1293 and 1295. Stone construction began in 1296 under his son Robert de Raymes, who received a license to crenellate in 1305. The Scots captured the castle in 1315, and Robert later rebuilt its defenses.
It has a hall range of two stories, a chamber block of two stories from an earlier timber building, and crenellations. From the 17th century until 1966 it operated as a farmhouse. English Heritage owns it today, and it is open to the public.
