The School of Architecture building at Princeton was dedicated in 1963. The sources consulted do not name its architect. The school library opened in 1964, and a 24-hour woodshop sits in the basement.
In 2007 the New York firm Architecture Research Office (ARO) designed the first significant addition since the building went up. It fills the space between a two-story south wing of offices and library and a three-story north wing of studios and classrooms, adding a lobby, a student lounge and an elevator wrapped by a cantilevered steel stair.
A glass curtain wall with ceramic frit patterns shades the south and west faces from the sun. ARO kept the open concrete studio stair and reworked the fabrication lab and workshops. The project won a 2008 New Jersey Honor Award for Architecture and a 2008 AIA New York State Merit Award.
