The Architecture Building opened in 1962 on the Southfield campus of Lawrence Technological University. Its architect was Earl W. Pellerin, a professor who also drew the campus master plan. The campus dates to 1955, when the school left Highland Park for a former General Mills research farm, and Pellerin led the design teams for several of its first buildings.
The building first held both the College of Architecture and the university library. Today it holds classrooms, studio spaces, student lounges and the Brick Gallery.
It is joined to the University Technology and Learning Center, completed in 2000 by Gwathmey Siegel & Associates. That building adds more design studios, critique and seminar rooms, and the 16:9 Gallery. Together the two buildings serve the College of Architecture and Design.
