The building holds studios, shops and labs, along with classrooms, support centers and a community design assistance center. Named spaces include the Architecture Gallery, the Built Environment Innovation Lab, the Digital Fabrication Lab and the Media Lab.

A second building, Design II at 820 Polytechnic Lane, adds six flexible studio sections, faculty offices and a 286-seat auditorium in about 14,000 square feet (1,300 square meters). It extends the Design I building, which Cooper Carry designed. The architect of the Architecture Building is not named.
