The Architecture and Design Studios building at 845 W Harrison Street houses both the School of Architecture and the School of Design at the University of Illinois Chicago. Each school has its own studios and classrooms, and the shared building is meant to encourage collaboration across the two disciplines.
The School of Architecture has five studio spaces, one for graduate students and one for each undergraduate year. Students have swipe-card access to the building and studios at all hours, every day. The building also holds small seminar classrooms, labs, and larger lecture and exhibition spaces.
The fabrication lab has woodworking tools, a MIG welder, a metal lathe, three laser cutters, a Trotec engraver, a three-axis CNC router and several 3D printers. A print lab has two large-format HP printers installed in 2020.
