The Anchorage Museum stands in downtown Anchorage. Mitchell/Giurgola Architects designed the original building, which opened on July 18, 1968, and David Chipperfield Architects planned the newest extension, which opened in 2010. The municipality owns it, and the private Anchorage Museum Association runs it. The article names no style and no extension start date.
The museum covers 170,000 square feet (16,000 m²), with over 40,000 square feet for the permanent collection. The new facade uses about 5,900 square meters of insulated fritted glass. It holds 25,000 objects and 500,000 historic photographs, and the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center shows about 600 Alaska Native artifacts on loan.
Other spaces include the Imaginarium Discovery Center, a 230-seat auditorium and the Muse restaurant. Over 180,000 people visit each year. The article gives no hours or admission.
