Amaras Monastery stands near the village of Sos in Nagorno-Karabakh. Medieval chroniclers credit Saint Gregory the Illuminator with founding it at the start of the fourth century. The article does not name an architect, and the infobox gives the style as Armenian. Saint Grigoris, Gregory's grandson, died in 338 and was buried there.

The Mongols plundered it in the 13th century, Timur's invasion destroyed it in 1387, and it was demolished again in the 16th century. A new Saint Grigoris church was built in 1858. The monastery was abandoned in the Soviet period and reopened in 1992.

The barrel-vaulted tomb chamber under the altar is 3.75 meters long, and carved details date it to the fifth century. Azerbaijan calls the monastery Caucasian Albanian. Reports said it came under Azerbaijani control on September 20, 2023, and the article gives no current visiting details.
