Alor Setar Tower is a telecommunication tower and tourist attraction in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia. Hijjas Kasturi Associates designed it for Telekom Malaysia, which also owns it. Groundbreaking was on May 2, 1994, and it was completed on June 19, 1996. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad opened it on August 14, 1997.
The tower reaches 543 feet (165.5 m) to the tip of its antenna spire, with the roof at 394 feet (120 m) and a skydeck at 344 feet (105 m). Its design draws on Kedah's nickname, "Jelapang Padi," or rice bowl. The structure evokes bundles of tied rice, and its large central pillar represents the strength of the people.
It has five floors, two lifts, restaurants, a souvenir shop and an observation deck. The tower also serves as a crescent-moon observatory marking the start of Ramadhan, Shawwal and Zulhijjah. Wisma PKNK, built in 1975, was Kedah's tallest structure until the tower was completed.
