The Ali Pasha Mosque stands in the Centar neighborhood of Sarajevo. Sofu Hadım Ali Pasha, an Ottoman statesman who governed the Bosnia Eyalet, endowed it as a vakıf. It was built in 1560 and 1561. He died in September 1560, just before construction began. The article names no architect or designer.
The mosque follows the classical Ottoman style. One dome covers the prayer area and three smaller domes cover the cloister, and the infobox lists four domes and one minaret. The article says its proportions make it the largest sub-dome mosque in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A mausoleum on the grounds holds the sarcophagi of Avdo Sumbul and Behdžet Mutevelić.
Serbian forces slightly damaged the mosque during the Bosnian War in the early 1990s, especially the dome. Its most recent renovation was in 2004, and it joined the national monuments list in January 2005.
