The Alcazaba of Almería is a fortified complex in southern Spain. Construction began in 955, when Caliph Abd ar-Rahman III gave Almería the title of medina. It was enlarged under Al-Mansur and Khayran as-Saqlabi, the first king of the taifa of Almería.

It has three enclosures. The first holds large cisterns, and the second has the governors' residence, soldiers' quarters, a mosque, baths and tanks. The third is called the most modern part of the complex. The Muro de la Vela, or Wall of the Sail, separates the first two. It held a bell that warned residents of arrivals, danger or fires, and Charles III of Spain built it.

After the Christian reconquest, Isabella I and Ferdinand II had a castle built at the highest point to resist gunpowder artillery. The site appeared in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and in Game of Thrones.
