The Akron Art Museum at One South High Street in Akron, Ohio, expanded in 2007 with a new building by the Viennese firm Coop Himmelb(l)au, chosen through an international competition, with Wolf D. Prix as principal architect. Groundbreaking was on May 22, 2004, and the new building opened on July 17, 2007. The original 1899 building is Italian Renaissance Revival; the article names no style for the new one.
The new Knight Building covers 63,000 sq ft (5,900 m²), with 20,000 sq ft of gallery space. Its parts include a three-story glass lobby called the Crystal, the Gallery Box, an auditorium and a cafe. The Roof Cloud is a cantilevered steel and aluminum armature, 327 ft (100 m) long, over the old and new buildings.
The collection covers art made since 1850, including Chuck Close's Linda and Andy Warhol's Brillo Boxes. The article gives no hours.
