The 63 Building on Yeouido in Seoul was originally the DLI 63 Building, built for Daehan Life Insurance as a landmark for the 1988 Summer Olympics. The architects were Harry D. Som and Helen W. Som of Som and Associates, with ChunMyeong Park. The article names no style, and says the design is based on the Hanja character for person. Groundbreaking was in February 1980, the cost was 180 billion won, and it was completed in May 1985. It opened in July 1985.
The roof is 819 feet (249.6 m) high, with an 899-foot (274 m) spire and 37 elevators. The gold-clad exterior used 13,944 exterior glass sheets, replaced in a refurbishment completed in three phases from 2005 to 2016. The name says 63 floors, though only 60 are above ground.
Hanwha Group renamed it 63 City in 2000 and acquired it in 2002. It holds a 60th-floor observation deck, an art gallery, restaurants and a mall.
