550 South Tryon, formerly the Duke Energy Center, stands at 550 South Tryon Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. The architect was tvsdesign, and Batson-Cook Company was the main contractor. Duke Power's chief executive assembled the land for a headquarters, then Duke dropped the plan and sold it to Wachovia. Site work began in February 2006, and the building received its certificate of occupancy on December 23, 2009.
The tower is 787 feet (240 meters) tall with 48 floors, or 54 with the mechanical levels. It has 1,370,214 square feet (127,297 square meters) of floor area and cost 880 million dollars. A poured-in-place concrete core carries floors of precast double tees.
The building holds a LEED Platinum certification and has a green roof. Programmable LED lighting on the facade responds to events at Bank of America Stadium. Duke left at the end of 2021, and the tower took its current name.
