Hendrick de Keyser designed the church, and his son Pieter completed it. Groundbreaking was in 1620, and it was consecrated on June 8, 1631. The article calls it the largest church in the Netherlands built for Protestants. It is 190 feet (58 m) long and 95 feet (29 m) wide, a three-aisled basilica with two equal transepts.
The tower, the Westertoren, is 285 feet (87 m) high, the tallest church tower in Amsterdam. Its spire designer is unknown, and the crown is the Imperial Crown of Austria of Maximilian I. The carillon has 51 bells, the largest 14 cast by François Hemony in 1658. It was restored inside from 2018 to 2020.
Rembrandt was buried here on October 8, 1669, in a grave whose exact location is unknown. The article lists free lunchtime concerts from April to October. It gives no tower-climb hours or ticket prices.
