Edward Blore designed the palace for Prince Mikhail Vorontsov, and William Hunt supervised construction. The article gives 1828 to 1848 and a cost of 9 million rubles. It calls the style a hybrid, with a Tudor-style north facade, Islamic motifs on the south, and a porch inspired by Delhi's Jama Masjid.
It is built of ashlar blocks of greenish-grey diabase and has 150 rooms. Giovanni Bonnani's lions were added to the lion terrace in 1848. The park covers about 99 acres (40 hectares) and was laid out by Carolus Keebach.
The article's construction chronology is inconsistent. The palace was nationalized in 1921 and became a museum. Manstein used it during World War II, and Churchill stayed there during the 1945 Yalta Conference. The library is given as 6,000 books in one place and about 10,000 in another.
