Trenčín Castle stands above the town in western Slovakia. The article does not name the original builders or give a firm founding date. Its oldest building is a stone rotunda, plausibly founded in the Great Moravian period.
In the mid-13th century Baron Jakab Cseszneky, swordbearer to King Béla IV, held the seat. Matthew III Csák later made it his residence, and the keep known as the Máté Tower is linked to him. It dominates the silhouette of the castle and the town. The article states no style or materials.
The well in the lower castle is about 262 feet (80 m) deep. A legend credits a Turkish prince with digging it, but the article says a garrison dug it over 40 years in the 16th century. The castle is a National Cultural Monument of Slovakia and houses Trenčín Museum exhibitions.
