Tokyo Skytree was designed by Nikken Sekkei and is owned by Tobu Railway. Construction began on July 14, 2008, and the tower was completed on February 29, 2012. It opened to the public on May 22, 2012. At 2,080 feet (634 m) it is the world's tallest tower, and it is the main television and radio broadcast site for the Kantō region.

Its style is described as neofuturistic, combining modern design with traditional Japanese beauty. The base resembles a tripod, and above 1,150 feet the structure becomes cylindrical. A steel frame surrounds a reinforced concrete central shaft. Oil dampers and a tuned mass damper help absorb earthquake energy, and the designers say they absorb half of it.

Observation decks sit at 1,148 feet (350 m), with room for 2,000 people, and at 1,476 feet (450 m), with room for 900. Entry costs 2,000 yen to the first deck, plus 1,000 yen more for the higher one.
