Lars Sonck designed the cathedral, which was built from 1902 to 1907. The article gives the style as National Romantic. It gives no materials and no client. The maximum height is listed as 64.0 with no unit.

Hugo Simberg painted the frescoes in 1905 and 1906, including versions of The Wounded Angel and The Garden of Death. A winged serpent on a red background near the highest point of the ceiling drew controversy, and some contemporaries read it as a symbol of sin and corruption. Magnus Enckell painted the altarpiece, which shows the future resurrection of people of all races.

It is a Lutheran church and the seat of the Diocese of Tampere. The article gives no owner or visiting hours.
