St. Catherine's Church sits at the entrance to Chernihiv, Ukraine, within the Ancient Chernihiv historical reserve. Built in the Cossack period in Ukrainian Baroque style, it was dedicated in 1715 to honor the Chernihiv Cossack regiment, which fought in the 1696 assault on the Ottoman fortress of Azov under colonel Yakiv Lyzohub.
The brick church is cross-shaped with five domes. The central dome is the highest and the composition is pyramidal. The interior is a pillarless space of five chambers, with white walls and gilded domes and crosses. A narthex added in 1837 and a bell tower built in 1908 were both removed during restoration.
Fires in 1941 to 1943 burned the roofs and dome tops, and worship resumed on July 19, 2008 after 75 years. A rocket attack damaged it in 2022.
