Construction began in 1388, with Johann Parler, son of Peter Parler, probably the first architect. Work was interrupted for more than 60 years during the Hussite Wars. Matěj Rejsek, Benedikt Rejt and Mikuláš Parler took over in 1481, and the three-peaked roof was completed in 1588. The church was completed at the end of the 19th century, and the article gives 1905.
It was planned as perhaps twice the size of the present building, and eight radial chapels have trapezoidal interiors. The choir is supported by double-arched flying buttresses. The infobox lists Gothic and Neo-Gothic, while the text says Jesuit work made parts of it Baroque. The article gives no dimensions or materials.
UNESCO inscribed it in 1995 with the historic town center. It stands outside the Old Town behind the Jesuit College.
