Doge Jacopo Tiepolo donated swampland to the Dominicans in 1246, and the church is their principal one in Venice. The dates conflict. The infobox gives groundbreaking in 1250 and completion in 1338, while the text says the present church was begun in 1333 and finished in 1430. It was consecrated in 1430. The article names no architect.

The brick Gothic church is 333 feet (101.6 m) long and 105 feet (32 m) wide. Bartolomeo Bon is credited only with the great west doorway. The article says 25 doges are buried here and that funerals for all doges were held here after the 15th century. The names it lists come to fewer.

Its artworks include Giovanni Bellini's Saint Vincent Ferrer Altarpiece and Veronese paintings. An 1867 fire destroyed paintings by Tintoretto and Titian in the Chapel of the Rosary. The article gives no admission details.
