Prato Cathedral, the Cathedral of Saint Stephen, began as a small parish church documented in 994. The infobox gives a groundbreaking around 1100, a date marked as needing a citation, and a completion around 1500. The bell tower was finished in 1356. The infobox calls the style Romanesque, and the text calls it Gothic-Romanesque.

The transept is attributed to Giovanni Pisano, though possibly to a pupil of Nicola Pisano. The new Gothic west facade dates from the early 15th century. Michelozzo made the exterior pulpit, with decoration by Donatello from 1428 to 1438. The interior has green serpentine columns on a Latin cross plan.

The cathedral holds the Sacra Cintola, the Belt of the Virgin. It has been the seat of the Bishop of Prato since 1954.
