The Dormition Cathedral was conceived by Mikołaj Bazyli Potocki as the largest Greek-Catholic church. The German architect Gottfried Hoffmann designed it, and it was built from 1771 to 1783. The article describes the exterior as transitional between Baroque and neoclassicism, with two tall towers flanking the facade. The monastery's first record dates to 1527.
The bell tower is about 213 feet (65 m) tall, built from 1861 to 1869, and its largest bell, cast in 1886, weighs 11.5 tonnes. Aleksey Schusev designed the Trinity Cathedral of 1906 to 1912, with porch mosaics and paintings by Nicholas Roerich. Cave churches were begun in 1774. The lavra stands on a hill about 197 feet (60 m) high. The article names no materials.
Ownership has changed. A 2003 lease to the Moscow Patriarchate runs to 2052, and a December 2023 Supreme Court ruling gave spiritual control to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
