Kohn Pedersen Fox designed the tower, with Thornton Tomasetti as structural engineer. Ping An Insurance commissioned it for its headquarters. It topped out on April 30, 2015, and was completed on March 28, 2017. Construction paused in March 2013 over concerns about sea-sand concrete and resumed after testing.

The architectural height is 1,966 feet (599.1 m). The infobox says 118 floors above ground, while the lead and body say 115 stories, with an 11-story podium. Eight main columns carry the structure, and the tower weighs 620,000 metric tons. The facade is stainless steel, weighing about 1,700 metric tons. The article names no style.

The Free Sky observation deck on floor 116 is open from 10 am to 8 pm, with last entry at 7:15 pm. The cost is estimated at 1.5 billion dollars.
