The Ostrogski Palace in Warsaw is a fortified mansion built on a bastion. Prince Janusz Ostrogski bought the site in the early seventeenth century and financed the bastion. Construction began after 1681, with Tylman Gamerski as architect, and the Baroque palace was meant to be one wing of a larger future palace. It was never completed. Jan Gniński bought the unfinished building, and the Zamoyski family bought it in 1725.
It became a student hostel in 1778, and the French converted it into a military hospital in 1806. The Musical Institute bought it in 1859. The Germans destroyed it in 1944 during the Warsaw Uprising, and Mieczysław Kuzma rebuilt it between 1949 and 1954.
It houses the Fryderyk Chopin Society and Museum. The palace is a Historic Monument of Poland, designated in 1994.
