The Oslo Synagogue was completed in 1920 for a congregation established in 1892, which is owned by Det Mosaiske Trossamfund. The article describes its style as National Romanticism. It is a two-story, stuccoed building, though the infobox lists brick, with a round tower topped by a spire that supports a Star of David. The architectural historian Carol Herselle Krinsky calls it a simple and charming country chapel.

A shooting targeted the synagogue in 2006, and no one was injured. Arfan Bhatti was convicted of co-conspiracy to the shooting, which the court judged coarse vandalism. On February 21, 2015, around 1,000 people formed a human ring of peace outside it, an event initiated by young Norwegian Muslims.

King Harald V and Crown Prince Haakon visited in June 2009. It is an active Orthodox congregation following the Nusach Ashkenaz rite.
