The present Salle Favart, the third theater on the site, was designed by Louis Bernier and opened on December 7, 1898 in the presence of President Félix Faure. It stands on Place Boïeldieu in the 2nd arrondissement, near the Palais Garnier. The article gives about 1,248 seats and names no style, dimensions or decoration.

The first Salle Favart, by Jean-François Heurtier, opened on April 28, 1783, with about 1,100 seats. A fire destroyed it on January 13 and 14, 1838. Louis Charpentier built a second theater with 1,500 seats, opened on May 16, 1840. A fire destroyed it on May 25, 1887, killing 84 people by asphyxiation.

The building became a historic monument in 1977. It closed for about 18 months from summer 2015 for refurbishment that also covered the costume department, the Salle Bizet and the Boieldieu hall, and it reopened in 2017.
