The Old Town Hall is first documented in 1310 and borders Marienplatz on its east side. The Grand Hall was built in 1392 or 1394. Jörg von Halsbach redesigned it in the late Gothic style from 1470 to 1480, with morris dancers by Erasmus Grasser in the hall. The former Talburg Gate of the first city wall serves as the spire. Renaissance and Baroque changes to the facade were followed by a neo-Gothic restoration from 1861 to 1864. The article gives no builder, materials or dimensions.

The municipality moved to the New Town Hall in 1874. The building was tunneled for road traffic in 1877 and again in 1934 and 1935, which destroyed the original ground floor. It was severely damaged in the Second World War, and the spire was reconstructed from 1971 to 1974.

It now serves representative purposes for the city council.
