Charles De Wailly and Marie-Joseph Peyre designed the first building, a Neoclassical theater built from 1779 to 1782 for the Théâtre Français on the garden of the former Hôtel de Condé. Marie-Antoinette inaugurated it on April 9, 1782.
Fire destroyed the theater on March 18, 1799. Jean-François Leclerc had remodeled it in 1797, when it became known as the Odéon. Jean-François Chalgrin, the architect of the Arc de Triomphe, rebuilt it in 1808, officially as the Théâtre de l'Impératrice, but that building burned down in 1818.
Pierre Thomas Baraguay designed the present building, which opened in September 1819, and the infobox lists only him. The article gives a capacity of 800 and names no style for the later buildings. It does not describe the ceiling or restoration work. The address is 2 rue Corneille, in the 6th arrondissement.
