Zalman Nożyk and his wife Ryfka financed the synagogue, and Karol Kozłowski designed it. Groundbreaking was in 1898, it was completed in 1902, and it opened to the public on May 26, 1902. The cost was 250,000 rubles. In 1914 the founders donated it to the Warsaw Jewish Commune. Maurycy Grodzieński refurbished it in 1923.
The article describes the style as Romanesque Revival and Rundbogenstil, with a neo-Romanticist facade and neo-Byzantine elements. It is a rectangular brick building with an interior divided into three aisles and seats for 600.
The Germans used it as stables and a depot after 1941. Rebuilding ran from 1977 to 1983. It is the only surviving prewar Jewish house of prayer in Warsaw.
