Noto Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra. Rosario Gagliardi designed the original building, with facade designs of about 1740. Construction began in the early eighteenth century after the 1693 earthquake, and Bernardo Labisi supervised its completion in 1776. The article calls the style Sicilian Baroque, with some Neoclassical elements.

The exterior is pale yellow limestone, with four saint statues on pillars in front and a large central dome over the crossing. The bell is in the left tower and the clock in the right. The interior is simply painted white.

An earthquake in 1990 weakened the structure, and on March 13, 1996, the dome and nave roof partly collapsed. After a long reconstruction, the cathedral reopened on June 15, 2007.
