The New Cathedral of Brescia was begun in 1604 on the site of the 5th or 6th century basilica of San Pietro de Dom. The commission was first given to Andrea Palladio and then passed to Giovanni Battista Lantana, assisted by Pietro Maria Bagnadore. The article names no client.

Work stopped around 1630 during a plague and restarted slowly and sporadically. Giovanni Battista and Antonio Marchetti designed the facade, and Luigi Cagnola designed the dome, which was completed in 1825. The dome is about 262 feet (80 m) tall, one of the highest in Italy. The style is Baroque.

The dome was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt. The article does not say whether the current dome follows the 1825 design. The cathedral is the largest church in Brescia.
