Alexey Shchusev designed the Alisher Navoi State Academic Grand Theatre, the national opera theater in Tashkent. It was built from 1942 to 1947 and opened in November 1947, timed to the 500th anniversary of Alisher Navoi's birth. It holds 1,400 spectators, and the main stage covers 540 square meters (5,800 sq ft).
The article says the building was partly built with forced labor, including Japanese prisoners of war. The body text dates their work to 1945 to 1947, while a 1996 plaque says 1945 to 1946. President Islam Karimov installed that plaque to honor the Japanese people who worked on the building.
The company gained academic status in 1959 and Bolshoi status in 1966. The article gives no style or materials.
