Mirza Hasan Ali Nasir ol-Molk, an aristocratic lord of Shiraz, commissioned the mosque, and it was built between 1876 and 1888 in the Qajar style. Its designers were Mohammad Hasan-e-Memār, who also built Eram Garden, Mohammad Hosseini Shirazi, and Mohammad Rezā Kāshi-Sāz-e-Širāzi.

The facade has extensive stained glass, and light passing through it produces red, azure, yellow, orange and green tones. Seven wooden doors connecting the western shabestan to the courtyard are decorated with Gereh Chini and include stained glass. Blue, yellow, pink, azure and white tiles are used extensively.

The mosque has two shabestans, or prayer halls. The western winter shabestan has arches and vaults, and two rows of six columns divide the interior. A shallow, wide pool sits in the middle of the courtyard, and the north and south porches differ from each other. The mosque was added to the Iran National Heritage List in 1955.
