Nikolay Zhukov designed the original mosque, completed in 1904 on Olimpiysky Avenue near the Olympic Stadium. The infobox gives its style as the architecture of the Kazan Khanate. It was recognized as a heritage object in June 2008, then removed from the list of monuments later that year, and it was demolished on September 11, 2011. The article calls it the first religious building demolished in Moscow since 1978.

Ilyas Tazhiyev's plan was to dismantle the building, collect its stones and reassemble it with corrected orientation, because it deviated several degrees from the direction of Mecca. The Council of Muftis dismissed him in 2009, first citing a new reconstruction project and then saying the building was close to collapse. Tazhiyev disputed that.

The new mosque holds 10,000 worshippers and was inaugurated on September 23, 2015. The article names no architect, dimensions or materials for it.
