Semyon Mikhailovich Vorontsov funded the first construction of Massandra Palace, which began in 1881 to a design by Étienne Bouchard in the Louis XIII style. The article lists Gothic Revival, Rococo and Neo-Romanesque styles and opens by calling it a Châteauesque villa. Construction was suspended after Vorontsov's death. The Imperial Domains Agency bought the unfinished palace in 1889 for Alexander III, and Maximilian Messmacher modernized it. It was completed in 1900, though no royals ever stayed there overnight.

After the October Revolution it served as a government sanatorium for tuberculosis patients, and after World War II as a state dacha. The Massandra Accords were signed there in 1993.

It is an Immovable Monument of National Significance of Ukraine. Since 2014 the Russian Presidential Affairs Administration has controlled it.
