The Ljubljana Opera House, at 1 Župančič Street, is the seat of Slovenia's national opera and ballet company. It was originally the Provincial Theatre, or Deželno gledališče, and was built from 1890 to 1892. The Czech architects Jan Vladimír Hráský and Anton Hruby designed it in the Neo-Renaissance style.

Until the German Theatre opened in 1911, it staged productions in both Slovene and German. Afterward it used only Slovene.

The facade has Ionic columns supporting a pediment with a tympanum over the entrance. Two side niches hold allegorical statues of Tragedy and Comedy by the sculptor Alojz Gangl. A major restoration was completed in 2011, which included an expansion visible at the back of the building.
