Landskron Castle is a medieval hill castle on a rock cone of the Ossiach Tauern range, 2,159 feet (658 m) above sea level. The article dates it to the early 14th century and first mentions it in 1351, when the Habsburg duke Albert II had it purchased and rebuilt. It names no architect.
Christoph von Khevenhüller bought the castle in 1542 and rebuilt it in Renaissance style as his main residence. Emperor Charles V visited in 1552. Ferdinand II stripped the Khevenhüllers of the castle in 1628, and it passed to the Dietrichstein counts in 1639.
A lightning-caused fire devastated the castle in 1812, and it was not rebuilt. Conservation has continued since 1953. The ruin is privately owned and open to the public, with a falconry center and a restaurant within its walls.
