Beneš von Wartenberg founded Kost Castle before 1349, and his sons Peter and Marquard von Wartenberg completed it. The article gives no completion date and names no architect or materials. It describes the style as high Gothic and says the castle retains most of its original features.
The castle sits on a spit between two brooks rather than on a hill. The donjon, called the Bílá věž, or white tower, has a trapezoid-like ground plan and is protected by two circles of fortress walls. Additional buildings were joined to the castle over the centuries.
In 1414 the Zajíc von Hasenburg family moved in after Nicolaus von Hasenburg married Skunka, widow of Peter von Wartenberg. Later owners included the Schellenberg, Biberstein and Lobkowicz families. The article says the Kinský dal Borgo family owns it today.
