The original castle was possibly built in 1210, when King Hugh I granted the land to the Hospitallers. The Knights Templar held it in 1306, and it returned to the Hospitallers in 1313. The present castle was built under Commander Louis de Magnac, whose coat of arms is carved into the walls, and was completed in 1454. The article names no architect or materials, and calls the style Gothic.
