Christoph Windisch, Klagenfurt's first mayor, commissioned the church, and its original builders were Protestants. It was completed and dedicated to the Holy Trinity in 1581, and the article calls it the largest Protestant church in Austria at that time. It was given to the Jesuits in 1600 and rededicated to Saints Peter and Paul. A fire destroyed it, and it was rebuilt in 1724. The infobox calls the style Baroque, but the article does not say whether this dates to the rebuild. It names no architect, materials or dimensions.

Bishop Franz Xaver von Salm-Reifferscheid made it a cathedral in 1787. It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt and the main parish church of Klagenfurt.

The article notes problems with its own sourcing, so these facts should be checked.
